hoping for a great series and good conversations with ya.

How do you feel about getting the Wings for the conf. finals ?
Do you think Babcock has any advantages being your ex coach ?

Who do you think would have been the tougher opponent DET or SJ ?

I know I'm being a homer and going out on a big, big limb here but I think this
ends in 5 for Det - Something I feel is that they knew how to close the last few
games and series and I think they really have that fire burning, more so than
the past 3-4 seasons.

Stop on by, but don't worry about the AV trash we have trolling non stop who
have been completely wrong this whole season.
And can you believe it think they OWN the USENET group cause they've been
trolling there for a decade.

For a good laugh just read some of the shit written by a nitwit nerd named
"Thomas" and a dude who's in hiding now and only stops in when we lose a game
(the name is Elz aka: SmElz).

Better yet, killfile them right away - you'll be glad you did, but they'll be
rooting for you. Take that with their last two series predictions, &
the regular season, then you'll want them to root for us, because they all have
been wrong as usual.

Talk to ya soon,

GO WINGS

There really isn't anybody in this group...I've been just about the
only resident poster in here. A lot of good questions and I'll try to
fire back.

Babcock's connection doesn't really worry me. It's a different team
now than when he was here. Our younger guys have grown, the focus has
been taken off Selanne somewhat, and as any Wild or Canuck fan can
attest, it's a more physical team than in the past. That Babcock has
been able to steer a "rebuilding team" into the Western Conference
Final--THAT concerns me.

To paraphrase Mark Twain: "The rumors of the Wings being in a
rebuilding year have been greatly exaggerated"

Shame there ain't more Duck fans here. Where are they? Nice move
dropping the "Mighty" BTW. Ugh.

Word of warning: It is Detroits sworn and solemn duty to deny Pronger
success. It's what we <usually> do. Nothing against the Duck org.
Well, other than yer in our way...heh.

This stems back to '02 when Pronger lined up Yzerman for a vicious
slam into the boards... and Steve "ducked". Heh. Pronger tore an ACL,
and St. looie went golfing.

I was really hoping changing our ridiculous moniker would bring the
fans back out of the woodwork, but on just about every hockey board I
see, there's a dearth of Ducks fans. Strange, because the arena is
ALWAYS packed now, at least it has been since the Devil/Duck finals a
few years back.

It's also a moral imperative for the Wings to take their rightful
place on Lord Stanley's hardware. I get that. Doesn't mean we
neophytes should lay down a Maginot line. The series will get ugly.
Brad May will see to that. The 'stache may get a couple words in as
well. I'm looking forward to an entertaining series and one that will
enable the Ducks to gauge the progress we've made from last year.

Weren't the Wings on ice when Claude famously "turtled?" The Wings
tend to bring out the best (worst) in some teams.

The best analogy I can make is it's like beating the Yankees in
October. If you're an AL team and your road to the World Series
doesn't take you through New York, you really haven't earned it. If
the Ducks are still playing three weeks from now, nobody but a few
sour grapes Minnesota fans can say they didn't earn it.

What were the dynamic's involved in changing the name? Was Disney involved
in dropping the "Mighty"? Did the public have a say or was it solely the
new ownerships' decision?

I can't remember where my car keys are half the time - but I recall that
clear at day - from the viewing audience it was on the left hand side just
inside the blue line....Pronger is not very popular in Detroit....

The official site for Anaheim Mighty Ducks has a messageboard. I
think that's where the Anaheim fans (as many as there are) go.

It's not nearly as easy to read as usenet though.

Fired that one off too quick.

I feel good about the Wings being our "final hurdle." The way I see
it, the Ducks are trying to establish themselves as an upper-tier
team. That won't happen so long as they're beating Minnesota, San
Jose, even Buffalo or Ottawa. The Wings have been in the playoffs
since the Ducks' inception. The Sharks and Sens were only a couple
years old, the Wild were only a displaced North Star fan's dream and
the Sabres...enough said.

The Wings have a depth we haven't seen so far in the playoffs. At the
same time, nearly everything I hear about Detroit is Hasek, Hasek, and
Hasek. All due respect to the Dominator, Anaheim just vanquished the
best goalie in these playoffs.

I don't see this series going fewer than six games either way. If
Moen, Kunitz, Getzlaf, and Perry finally get around to playing their
best hockey and our defense continues to play their game, the Ducks
should split in the first two in Hockeytown. With our home ice
advantage and the Wings' concerns on the road, there's the six in our
direction. Anything less than the best, you'll clinch on our ice.

I'd wish you good luck in this series, but naturally you know where my
loyalties lay. I'll say the same thing I said going into the last
series, I'll be pulling for whoever comes out of this one.

That may be the case but Kiprusoff was absolutely, and I mean absolutely
outstanding in the first round.

My concerns are the loss of Schneider combined with your D combo.
Schneider's point play will be sorely missed and may throw off the chemistry
of the unit. The thought of Pronger lining up Datsyuk doesnt sit pretty
with me either. He seemed to carry the Oilers in our first round last year
and although I have a lot of respect for him I really want to see him get as
frustrated as we have seen him get in the past.

We need more production from Lang, Bertuzzi (who is coming around) and
Calder who has gone cold.

I am really looking forward to this series.

Nice to see that Wing fans like "NHL" and "Ziggy" have finally found their
sanctuary. No, I'm not talking about the duck ng. "NHL" is the singer and
"Ziggy" is the musician here amongst fields of rainbows and lollipop trees
in their new music video:

Thing is, Pronger and Niedermeyer, as solid as they've been, haven't
been the Supermen we expected. The team has really played down to the
competition, meaning no disrespect to the Canucks. The sloppy
passing, missed checks, and stupid penalties in the first round should
have warranted an early exit. When Vancouver came around, the team
was noticably better, but was frankly outplayed by the 'nucks in three
of those games. That, mixed with Pronger's history with the Wings
(yes, but Niedermeyer was never in that division), could play very
much against the Ducks.

Naturally, we're going to be concerned about Datsyuk and Zetterberg as
well. Heck, the phrase "nobody gets out alive" comes to mind in
looking at your roster. No easy shifts, that's for certain.

As am I. One thing that will likely be brought up is the condition of
the ice. The Wild, especially, were frustrated by the slushy ice, a
home advantage since 2003. It neutralizes our speed, so Andy
MacDonald and Teemu kinda disappear, but Getzlaf, Moen, and Kunitz as
well as Paulsson tend to thrive on the physical game. Hasek won't
likely get the luxury of leaving the crease because there's almost
always a Duck mixing it up in the middle (a lesson we learned after
years of Tverdovsky to Kariya to Selanne to the other end of the ice).

Another wings fan here - Kipper at Calgary was the best goaltender in the
playoffs. With all due respect Vancouver should not have even been this
deep in the play-offs and was not a tough challenge for the Ducks. The
wings are a beaten up team - lots of injures on defense and the travel is
going to hurt both teams (but you will never see it on the ice). I have
hoping for a good series of hockey as I am sure you are....the papers are
picking the ducks in 7 games...we will see. Good luck....

I will also warn you about the same wings troll - bigger dick that you saw

Thanks for the news, flash. Now show me where I ever defended PL or
Theodore. Vancouver obtained a high priced goalie worth every penny. PL
screwed the pooch in a huge way. Now see if you can put one of those 2 or 3
brain cells to use and come up with something original. Oh, maybe another
golf reference, those are hilarious.

Um no, it's not just perception.

... although I'm still trying to forgive Luongo for a couple of his
screw-ups in the last two games against Anaheim. The fourth game of
that series he demonstrated his puck handling downside by bringing a
puck out from behind the net and passing it straight to an Anaheim
player, who promptly put it into the net before Luongo could get back
to it. And in game 5, that last goal by Anaheim was just sickening.
Luongo wasn't even doing his job. He was playing referee.

Anyway, I'm hoping Anaheim will beat Detroit, And Ottawa will beat
Buffalo. And then Ottawa will beat Anaheim in the finals. That'd be
great!!!

Deborah
